JORNADA DEL MUERTO SAND SPIRAL:

Sand, string, dowels, dimensions variable (18 x 18 inches in this setup), 1998.

This installation, made with red sand from central New Mexico, is made by unwinding the smaller stick and dragging it repeatedly through a mound of sand. Keeping tension on the string attached to the longer stick in the center produces the spiral track and forms the circular shape.
